FAQ:
Is this compatible with Wordpress 2.9?
We have tested this plugin with 2.9.1 and it works. We have tested this with the Danvers Theme and the Mimbo Theme. Category links in navigation and in the sidebar are affected.
Good work! I left a reply in the WP forum’s post about an error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ELSE in D:\xampp3\xampp\htdocs\wp02\wp-content\plugins\category_redirect\cat_form.php on line 86
What can it be? I can’t find any error in your code! Am I blind?
Hi,
I have been looking for something like this for ages.
I have just installed this and activated it. Where do I set up the category redirects from?
Thanks
Tony
Ignore – my last comment – found it! Excellent worth will donate a bit of cash at the end of the month!
Great Plugin
Okay, this solves an issue I’ve been slaving over for the past two days… I’m using WP as a CMS, and am using posts for press releases and updates, listed on Pages of that name. The problem: how to get the breadcrumb links on single.php for the post’s category to go back to the PAGE associated with the category, and NOT the category page, which would be confusing for the visitor. Thank you so much… this may be the best WordPress plugin of 2010…
@Caracena
Can you let me know what version of WP or WPMU you are using? And give me a couple of plugins you are using and I’ll check up on this.
@Arjay
You could have the redirect go to the page by adding the page URL to the category. That should work. If you only want to use it for specific parts of your theme (ie: goes to page in single.php only ), maybe I can add it to the next release ( in a couple of weeks ).
But currently can’t think of any way other than adding the page URL to the category in the redirect options page.
I am going to work on this. I think the ELSE statement looks good, but may have been formatted differently when you uploaded it. Try uploading the plugin again; I will do what I can on my end to fix the Parse ERROR.
If you also have this error let me know.
Hi Judge,
I’m using WP 2.9.1 with only 3 plugins:
- Complete Vbridge Plugin
- Login-Logout
- Multi-page Toolkit
Thanks again!
“But currently can’t think of any way other than adding the page URL to the category in the redirect options page.”
That is exactly what I’m doing. It’s working great — and so easy.
I’m using this plugin with a test install of wpmu 2.9.1-RC-1 and it works beautifully. Very very nice work. You deserve some sort of award!
Thanks! Let me know if you need any more help or suggestions.
I think the Vbridge is having issues with this plugin, I am still checking up on it. I know the Vbulletin has its issues with other plugin compatibilities; weird that it could have some isssue with my own. I am still testing. Sorry! I’ll let you know what I find.
All right Judge… Thanks a lot for your time and effort. As you might gyess, vbridge is a must as the forum is the real candy on my site… so I need it -.-
Thanks again… and I hope you find the answer soon
I’m trying to redirect category archive page requests to the home page. For example, if I had a category called “news”, then going to http://www.mysite.com/category/news would redirect you to the home page, http://www.mysite.com. Does this widget do this? If so, it’s not working for me. Thanks!
Hi caracena,
I am also facing the same problem … i have found IT ! The problem is in your PHP setting. “short open tag” must be on.
When i on it the problem is gone………….
I sent you an email; let me know the issues.
Hey, thanks for letting me know that. Didn’t know I wrote it that php-tags needed to be open. I will change this in the next release so you won’t have to change the setting.
Hi Judge,
This is EXACTLY what Ive been looking for. And this is the ONLY plugin I found.
Installation is no problem and setting took 1 sec.
Problem is : the redirection doesnt work. And Im not technical enough to meddle with php .
I think Im using the latest WP update. Could that be the problem?
UPDATE!
Someone sent me the problem to the plugin and a fix! I will check this and post it as soon as I know its good.
You won’t need the short-tag and it should work for 2.9.1
Donation button on your page please
because I was building this for a client I had to take out your donation link on the plugin page. But otherwise you deserve some money for this one!
Life saving plugin maan. Will donate for sure!!!
