You can use Hootsuite to control your Identi.ca account. And it is all thanks to Paul Frields great workaround he posted on a mailing list a month ago.

It requires that you use Ping.fm to connect to your Identi.ca account and then use Hootsuite to connect to Ping.fm. It works to send Identi.ca replies and messages through Hootsuite. Here are the directions he posted here:

So I set up a special Ping.fm account that is hooked to the @fedora
Identi.ca account. I also entered it into HootSuite, and sent out
invitations to the whole FAS social networking team giving access to
this account. So here's how it works now:

For new status updates -- updates that are *not* replies:
1. Login to HootSuite.
2. Select *ONLY* the Ping.fm "Fedora" account.
The status echoes to Identi.ca @fedora, which echoes to Twitter
@fedora.

For replies:
1. Login to HootSuite.
2. Select *ONLY* the account you're replying on, probably Twitter
 @fedora.
The status only goes to the Twitter account where the mention
happened.

If you happen to find another way, let us know by discussing the Hootsuite/Identica connections below.

Here is an amazing post about how to develop a jquery-based embed object where you can put out content from your site onto others. So sites like Hulu don’t have to be the only ones spreading their content over the web, now you can create your own widget too!

If you have a lot of content on your site and would like to make a widget (like a Wordpress widget), than this will teach you how to do it. Drupal I think already has this function in its API, so hopefully this can help others who don’t have this function handy.

I had just found this old “Templates” plugin from 2005. People are still downloading this plugin, and it doesn’t even have a description. I haven’t checked it out; maybe it became part of the Wordpress template functions and was no longer needed as a plugin.

If anyone can tell me why people are still downloading this bad boy, let me know. I am going to take a look under the hood sometime later.

The pro is that this Wordpress plugin is very easy to use, but there are many cons.

There is no TinyMCE to work this baby out with any links or features, and it is simply just bare-bones.

Also, some people in the Sidebar posting forums have had issues with installation.

This plugin is way too early to use, unless you want to post like I have ( no links, images etc. )

Would wait for the next release before deciding if the plugin is useful.

I wanted to add a quick “fade” to the Wordpress plugin Post Tabs. It is a great plugin, it is easy to use, and I like it. All I did was that I went into posttabs.js that is inside the plugin folder.

You will see this code:

“jQuery(‘#postTabs_li_’+tab+’_'+post).addClass(‘postTabs_curr’);
jQuery(“#postTabs_”+tab+”_”+post).show();
self.focus();”
Essentially, the code is saying “I am currently showing information from one tab, but when you click another tab, I will show the other tab. Instead of .show, replace it with a fadeIn:

jQuery(‘#postTabs_li_’+tab+’_'+post).addClass(‘postTabs_curr’);
jQuery(“#postTabs_”+tab+”_”+post).fadeIn();
self.focus();

Should be self-explanatory. And you could use other parameters to fadeIn for your specific purposes. See the fadeIn page here for more information. Go to my new Musicology wiki page to see the plugin work, and give Leo Germani some money for this plugin; he deserves it!

Their website design is very tacky. The loud flash sound when I go to the front page? The lack of font/sentence/paragraph structure?

The forums are next to empty. Even a company that has no problems should have *someone* talking in the forums.

They give you $40 to become an affiliate? That is a lot of money.

Their WHOIS record is private. A public company hosting important sites shouldn’t have a private domain name.

They may be a good host, but I would want to know how accountable they are to their clients, and to their affiliates. Until there is a physical name/address/someone that is accountable that I can see on their website, I would say hold off until reviews of their client/affiliate service comes out.

There isn’t a lot of information about Red5 and RTMP hosts that are out on the market right now. I have even heard that GoDaddy and Hostgator can supply Red5 with their dedicated hosts, but their documentation and information is so sparse that they may not be good to use for RTMP/Red5 hosting.

But here is a list of Red5 hosting that are really good. Some are affiliate links, some are not. But we hope you like our recommendations.

CirtexHosting ( Red5 Under their VPS/Dedicated company Hostv )

Cirtex says it provides VPS Red5 RTMP hosting for just 39.99 and up, which is a pretty good deal. The deal is probably not good for people who want to make big websites, so check up on what they offer for dedicated servers.

In their forums:

How to install Red5 (not updated since 2009)

AptHost (Red5)

Another Red5 hosting provider. They provide hosting for with a Red5 server.

VideoWhisper Red5 Hosting ( VideoChat/ Chatroulette App Options available )

They are the front-runners in managing streaming and RTMP websites since they have licenses and installation programs embedded into their products. You could easily set up a video-chat site with free installation for about $60 per month. Their forums don’t seem to have much going on, so it means that they are doing their job, or not many people use it. Either way, they do give refunds, so check them out if you are looking for Red5 hosting.
